New players for Baylor (hard-fought), and half a dozen mid-majors

  • New verbals according to the Hodge Report go to Baylor, NIU (Derrick Rose's teammate), Lamar (2), James Madison, Lipscomb, Sacret Heart and Dusquene (former Big East signee). Team losing players: Oregon State (transfer), Dusquene (one transfer, one denied). To find out who all these players are, visit the Hodge Report at CSTV
  • More on the Duquesne transfer at Goodman's blog, and by Dick Hoops Weiss of the New York Daily News. Apparently interpersonal relationships were a factor [allegedly].
  • And more on Duquesne, as they are featured in College Hoop Net's top 144 previews as team #77. This is becoming a Duquesne blog :-)
  • An update on Steven Lanersberg at the Zags Blog (no, not Gonzaga Zags, but Adam Zagoria Zags). Also from Zags updates on Kevin Jones, Seton Hall and Duquesne transfer, and more from the Five Star Camp. To summarize, visit and bookmark Zags blog :-)

New verbals for Baylor, Clemson, mid-majors. Losing players: Indiana, San Diego State

  • Lots of happenings at CSTV's Hodge Report since oue previous update. Lots of transfering took place, including a big Aussie from a Big 10 school, destination unknown. A couple of high profile players are downgrading (going below D1): a pine specialist from the Zags, and a touted wing at Missouri... A handful of recruits who presumably were not ready physically, mentally or academically are off ot either JuCo or prep school... Steve Fisher dismisses a player?... On the Recruits Receivable side of the ledger, new players wlll be appearing at Boise State, the Bonnies (2), Clemson, Sacto State, and Fresno State. The most profile commit though went to Baylor (top 50 of 2009).

New players for Florida, Arizona, Indiana, Alford - Tubby loses his first commit

  • Rivals updates their top 150 of 2008 as of 8/16/2007. I won't reveal their top players, but three of the top ten are uncommited. But I will reveal #150: Julius Mays going to NC State :)
  • New news at the Hodge Report on CSTV: Arizona gets a 2009 guard, Florida gets a top 100 2008 forward, and as expected Alabama gets a high profile top 100 team-mate of one of their recent commits. One in and one out for Tubby Smith: he adds a juco but loses his first commit. Other colleges gaining new players: Steve Alford at New Mexico (get used to that!), Rice, Rhode, Indiana, NW State (former Ball State commit), Georgia State, Tommy Amaker at Harvard and Fresno State. Visit the Hodge Report for all the details and free player profiles.

  • New news from the Hodge Report: Tubby Smith gets a 2008 JuCo for the TimberGophers, Kent State and Oakland add players, while a Clemson commit commits to two years of JuCo. Meanwhile Mike Davis at UAB gets one of the 300 - well not exactly, but that's the best I could come up with :) He is a 7-footer even and eligible to play right away. As you may call UAB's roster is gonna be loaded this season and it will be Mike Davis's first chance at redemption after the Indiana situation.

    Weekend update with new news!

  • The CSTV Hodge Report delivers new news!. We have two big signings: Texas A&M (without Billy Gillispe) gets a top 100 2008 guard, while Cal's big signing is with regards to height. And he will be eligible to play right away. Ben Braun leveraged the area's population diversity to get this tall recruit. He is 7'3"! Check the Hodge Report to find out who. Detailed player profile.
  • More from the Hodge Report: Martina asked and got his release from a university that recently made a coaching change (Martina is a dude), Oregon State has a surprising transfer and what a coincidence! another player is transferring in! Don't you just love these coincidences? :) Staying in the pacific northwest, Eastern Washington gets a JuCo.

Transfer day at the Hodge Report

  • 2007 NCAA College Basketball Tournament games on DVD!
  • Transfer day at the Hodge Report as they inform us of a number of transfers: A high profile Minnesota big man leaves before the Tubby Smith era officially begins on the court. Also transfering out from: West Virginia, Nebraska, Bob Knight Text (not everyone can bear with Knight on a daily basis), and Ball State. The last one is a release from the letter of intent, so this Texan forward is now back in the market!... Perhaps the excitment over the new Anaheim Classic hosted by the Big West helped Long Beach State get a new commit. Also Matt Gottfried used his "connections" to get a top 100 guard from 2008!
  • Following this get by Alabama, Goodman projects that JaMychal Green will follow suit and signs with the Tide

  • James Gandolfini to play the Godfather of Summer Hoops on HBO? The Ballers All Star Report latest newsletter reports on a Variety report saying just that! The current name for the film is "ABCD Camp". Lots of other goodies at the Ballers All Star Report, including webcasts of summer hoops action, as well DVDs, and more news and features!

  • More updates from Dick Hoops Weiss with updates from the upcoming Boost Mobile Elite 24 game at Rucker Park. Meanwhile St Johns is trying to figure out who to offer their last scholarship. More at his blog.
  • Dick Hoops Weiss has one suggestion for an assistant at Seton Hall. Gonzo has a good chance at making it big if he can manage to improve the team which is not an easy thing in the super-sized Big East. He is already building up his media portfolio with appearances at CSTV and NBA-TV... Hoops also talks about a rising star from St Anthony's, Tyshawn Taylor. Weiss lists his long lists of national offers.

New players for Maryland, Washington, Arkansas, Turnaround Tom and more

  • Forget Bassie. Here comes Lance! (thankfully not the Backstreet Out of Sync Lance), but Lance Stephenson, the next big thing out of New York. Dick Hoops Weiss, a great source for recruiting info, has the final six in the hunt for his commitment. The Final Six include the usual suspects: Pitino, Calipari, Ole Roy, Huggins mountaineer-Bear, but also JT3 and Kelvin "it took an extra 500 calls to convince them to play slugfest on my team" Sampson.
  • New news at the Hodge Repor(t) at CSTV: The Return of the Gary continues with a top 100 guard. Which is exactly what Romar got as well (not the same player obviously). New Mexico State (now without Reggie Theus) has picked up a former OKi State commit. Meanwhile Arkansas gets a player from the former-USSR ...South. Two new players for corrosive Matt Doherty at SMU, and one each for former UCLA assistant Kerry Keating at Santa Clara (yes the university that pushed out Dick Davey after 30 years of service), and Central Meeeeecheeeeegan. More commits at the Hodge Repor(t) at CSTV: Houston, NW State, Hawai'iii, Army and Illinois Chicago. Visit their website for free details and free player profiles.

Not too late for new 2007 signees!

  • The latest Hodge Repor(t) at CSTV has news of two late signees for Purdue and Kansas State, eligible to play in 2007-2008. The Purdue signee is a JuCo that was set for Utah before their coaching change. Read the Hodge Report for details. Illinois State and Tennessee State added new players, while Arkansas Little Rock and Purdue lose a player each. Funny how a player decides to go elsewhere and at the same time a new commitment comes in. Shame on you Matt Painter of Purdue!. But of course the majority of basketball coaches would do the same thing, so it's not that I am picking on Matt Painter, it's just that he is the last one to do this.

  • Lost: Michigan (bench player transfers out)

    BCS commitment day

  • 2007 NCAA College Basketball Tournament games on DVD!
  • The latest news from the Hodge Report at CSTV have commitments for Missouri, Baylor (Australian connection), and Bob Huggins (yes, he is at West Virginia now) getting a kid from (the) Bronx.
  • Gary Parrish talks to Dave Telep (offline) and discusses the recent trend of decommitments. A follow up on the story here. In an attempt to be funny (I guess) Gary Parrish blames Larry King. Comments like this make may make fans want Greg Doyell back :) Meanwhile Dave Telep blames divorces! Stick to basketball comments, both of you! :-) Do read the reader comments, they point out a lot of the silliness. Let's not forget coaches bolt left and right, and they get paid a lot of money, unlike the student-athletes.
  • Top 200 of the Class of 2008 at CSTV
  • After four "recruiting losses" by Billy Gillispie, John Clay wonders whether he lost his Mo(mentum). One player committed elsewhere, while three more have shortened their lists and removed UK from them. Zeller for example is now down to the three Indiana schools and Ole Roy (who got some heat for not singing up enough players), while the Russian dunker Oleg Czyz is down to PitinoVille, Donovan Diva and Coach Dracula K (what do these three have in common? RINGS!)... Meanwhile A Sea of Blue has a different take on this (and a LOTR reference!)

All you can recruit Fridays (and Duke transfer predictions)

  • Thanks KentuckyInk/UK Insiders for discussing my Top 10 of 2007. The discussion thread is here (registration required, but it is free). In that thread I make a new bold prediction regarding Duke transfers: I am predicting that both Taylor King and Nolan Smith will transfer out of Duke by the end of their sophomore seasons. King will return to the west coast and Smith will probably transfer to PitinoVille. Now this may sound like a silly prediction, but I did predict in December 2005 that Jamal Boykin would transfer out of Duke by July 2007. Boykin transfered out of Duke during the Fall 2006 semester and is eligible to play at Cal-420 in Spring 2008.

  • New news from CSTV's Hodge report: A guard from the Bronx stays in the Big East (but not in the NY/NJ metro), Purdue beats mid-majors for a guard, while Akron and Eastern Michigan add a player each.
  • Kentucky tradition and recruiting at A Sea of Blue
  • Goodman reports that a Bostonian forward will be visiting New Mexico State soon. He also suggests that the NCAA should give (read: force) the coaches to take time of during the summer. He also has the final two choices for Aaron Ellis, the guard who was not admitted at South Carolina (another lost recruit for Dave Odom).
