Monday Night Hoops (lots to read!)

  • Mike Miller of Beyond the Arc comes back from vacation with basketball camp coverage. He also provides a list of upcoming camps. No more ABCD Camp this year, but instead there's Rbk U.
  • A number of recruiting updates from Dick Hoops Weiss covering the all-star game at Trenton, NJ, spotlighting a number of local NY/NJ up and coming prospects. Weiss also reports on the LeBron James Nike event in Akron, Ohio and provides the top 5 players per position courtesy of HoopScoop's Clark Francis and their Ohio editor Chris Johnson. Of note, Lance Stephenson finished ahead of the other super-wing, Tyreke Evans.
  • DeCourcy managed back to back to back recruiting posts. First he points out that Greg Monroe isn't too worried about his rankings (he is now considered the #1 of the 2008 class), then he notes that the line for the services of Al Faroud Aminu is getting longer as he continues to develop, and finally he takes a ... Bruin Holiday as Ben Howland finally manages to beat everyone for a very high profile SoCal recruit. And one post before that, DeCourcy looks at the recruiting impact of Billy Clyde Gillispie since he took over Kentucky.
  • John Clay's Sidelines Report has a comprehensive roundup of some recent basketball camps
  • Meanwhile Van(ce) Coleman at CSTV publishes the top 42 classes of 2007. Some familiar places and some new coaches making a splash in his list. Three big ten teams in the top 10, so maybe they'll play more offense and less slugfest :-) The next John Beilein (Jerry Weinwright) is in the top 10. Highly recommended!.
  • More updates from Goodman: LeBron makes more than an appearance at his own event, Nigel Munson transferring out of Va Tech, and Tubby Smith and Billy Clyde Gillispie sitting next to each other. Check his blog for all the details.

Baseball fans: Free MLB EXtra Innings July 12 thru 18

I just saw this and thought it might be of interest to baseball fans reading this blog. MLB Extra Innings will be having a free preview from July 12 through July 18. On Comcast for sure, I do not know about the other cable or satellite providers. MLB Extra Innings is a pay-per view package showing out of market baseball games, similar to ESPN Full Court for college basketball, ESPN Game Plan for college football and NBA League Pass for the NBA. Oh the NFL and NHL and MLS have something similar as well.

New at New Mexico and Stanford

  • The Hodge Report reports that Stanford gets a new guard while New Mexico gets a big man, but they also lose a bench player to a transfer. To recap, the head coach at New Mexico is Ritchie McAlford ;-)
  • Dick Hoops Weiss has an update on the Eastern Invitational with four players making an impression on him.
  • Meanwhile Goodman blogs that LeBron's academy draws Coach K, Calhoun, Izzo and more
  • Gary Parrish of CBS Sportsline blogs about day 1 of the LeBron James Academy. Parrish mentions 13 year old 6'6" prodigy Michael Gilchrist from Camden, New Joisey, who wants to play for John Calipari at Memphis. How many times will he change his mind until his freshman season? Probably many! Parrish also comments on Greg Monroe as the top player of the 2008 class.

Sunshine to sunshine (heatwave to heatwave)

  • Jeff Goodman takes free recruiting posts to the next level by posting the top 40 of the class of 2009 along with their summer AAU team and a long list of colleges interested in the players and vice-versa. Goodman also provides a schedule of the summer tourneys the players are participating in. A number of websites are now making those available via webcasts so you can be a step ahead of the game without even leaving the comforts of your chair. Great job by Goodman!
  • Not to be outdone paperback writer Seth Davis (look it up if you don't believe me!) takes a look at the summer AAU recruiting circuit as well. Seth Davis, the host of CSTV's Generation Next, highlights 15 players to watch this summer.
  • The Hodge Report reports that Miami of Florida is picking up a top 100 player in the 2008 out of the state of California.
  • The Sidelines Report looks at some of the top prospects for Kentucky in the class of 2009
  • If you lost track on how many transfers has Donnie Jones managed to pick up in his few hours at Marshall you are not alone. But Goodman keeps track of them. It's three now, including recent Floridian transfer Brandon Powell (along with P-Mac and Spann of Georgetown). Two Final Four transfers on their roster, not bad for Marshall!
  • Dick Hoops Weiss who was featured in the Palestra documentary that aired last night on ESPN Classic tour the summerball circuit as well. He also congratulates PJ Carlesimo on his new head coaching job at Seattle.
  • On a totally unrelated note, the Supersonics are considering trading Kevin Durant for the rights of Latrell Sprewell ;-)
  • Gary Parrish looks at the future of the Godfather, Sonny Vaccaro. He also talks about summer hoops in his thoughts blog
  • A long recruiting themed post at The Big East Basketball Repor(t) including Tyreke Evans, Erik Murphy, Nate Lubick, Adam Zagoria, Dexter Strickland and a lot more. Must read for Big East fans!
  • Every 2007 NCAA College Basketball Tournament game on DVD!
